The event was particularly exciting for students studying Media and Film, as it provided a unique opportunity to hear directly from one of the industry’s most respected figures. Rather than focusing solely on his achievements, Mr Kapur shared personal insights from his own journey, including how he began his career as a Chartered Accountant before making the transition into filmmaking. Many students found this inspiring, as it demonstrated that career paths are not always linear and that following one’s passion can lead to unexpected and rewarding opportunities.
One of the most compelling parts of the session was the discussion surrounding creativity in a world increasingly influenced by Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies. Mr Kapur explained that while technology will continue to evolve, original ideas, human experiences, and authentic emotions will always remain at the heart of great storytelling. This message resonated strongly with students, particularly those interested in pursuing careers in media and creative industries.
Students were also given the opportunity to ask questions and hear Mr Kapur’s perspectives on filmmaking, imagination, and the importance of taking creative risks. His responses were thoughtful, honest, and relatable, creating a genuine conversation rather than a formal presentation. He encouraged students to remain curious, observe the world around them, and embrace failure as an essential part of the creative process.
Another highlight of the event was the celebration of achievements within Sunmarke’s Media and Film Department. Students who had recently excelled in film and media competitions were recognised for their accomplishments, creating a strong sense of pride and motivation throughout the auditorium. Being acknowledged in front of such a respected filmmaker made the moment even more meaningful and memorable.
The atmosphere throughout the session was energetic and inspiring. Students remained fully engaged, and the combination of insightful discussion, audience interaction, and musical performances helped create a dynamic and enjoyable experience. It was evident that many students left the auditorium feeling motivated and excited about their future aspirations.
Events such as Think & Thrive play an important role in enriching students’ learning experiences beyond the classroom. They provide opportunities to connect with industry professionals, gain valuable real-world insights, and explore potential career pathways. For Media and Film students in particular, hearing directly from someone as experienced and accomplished as Shekhar Kapur offered invaluable guidance and inspiration.
Overall, the session was a memorable experience that encouraged students to think creatively, remain open-minded, and pursue their passions with confidence. More than just a discussion about filmmaking and media, it served as a powerful reminder that curiosity, creativity, and courage can open doors to extraordinary opportunities.
